Pasadena, CA — The rising unemployment and lack of credit led Americans to cut back on their purchases, thus affecting the sales at top US retail companies, which fell more than twice as much as forecasted in December. This has had a detrimental impact on the sales jobs in different companies as many of them are cutting back on their sales and marketing staff. SellingCrossing, the exclusive job board for sales professionals, aims to relieve sales job seekers by finding every possible sales job available in the US.
''SellingCrossing has posted over 25,000 sales jobs this week, which is an incredible feat all by itself,'' says Harrison Barnes, CEO and founder of SellingCrossing. ''Companies should chalk out new plans of promoting their product sales, and think of other cost-cutting methods, rather than relentlessly cutting jobs. This is not a long-term solution anyway.''
Meanwhile, Pfizer Inc., the world's biggest drug maker, plans to lay off as many as 2,400 salespeople in the US. The cuts comprise one-third of the company's field force, the Wall Street Journal said, citing a person familiar with the matter. Also, sales of Motorola Inc.'s cell phones crumbled during the important holiday season, as it could sell only 19 million phones, down from 40 million sales it made over a year back. This has prompted the company to eliminate 4,000 jobs, which includes large-scale cuts in its sales division. The largest of the job cuts is to be brought about by Circuit City, which had already closed 155 stores in November to return to profitability. The second largest US retailer of consumer electronics has already filed bankruptcy last year and is all set to liquidate its 567 existing stores which will whisk more than 30,000 jobs from the stores.
''The US should quickly pivot its attention to the structural problems in our economy, including a massive trade debt, crumbling infrastructure, and competitive pressures that are eliminating good paying sales jobs,'' says Harrison Barnes, the CEO and founder of SellingCrossing. ''Companies belonging to every sector all over America are suffering. It's time for the government to respond, and it must do so quickly. SellingCrossing is also doing its best to stage a major revival for sales job seekers.''
''It's important to create as many jobs as possible in every US state to combat the downturn and revive employment statistics all over,'' says Barnes. ''But what is most important for the individual job seeker is that he or she searches for new jobs in the right place.''
