SellingCrossing Weekend

If you enjoy spending your weekends on the water or in the water, how about spending some time underwater? It seems that submarines are no longer exclusively for the military and search-and-recovery operations. You can have one too—if you can write a check for around $5 million.

There is a company located in Vancouver, British Columbia, called Underwater Vehicles, Inc., that produces personal submarines. I've got my eye on a model they call the Trilobis 65, which is a semi-submerged...well, it's not exactly a house, but you can live in it.

The name refers to the trilobiti, little creatures that lived in the sea 500 million years ago. This "submersible" was designed by Giancarlo Zema, can hold as many as six people, and is 20 meters long. There are even four separate levels in this thing, and they are connected by a spiral staircase—too cool!

I think the initial idea was to give people a way to live in bays and maritime parks in self-sufficient, non-polluting dwellings that allow them to feel at one with their ocean surroundings. The top level sits 3.5 meters above sea level, and the next level sits 1.4 meters above sea level; in these areas, daylight comes through the windows and you have some outdoor access. The third section rests at 0.8 meters below sea level. It is semi-submerged, and the brochure says it is devoted to the nighttime zone. At 3.0 meters below sea level, the fourth level is totally submerged and houses an underwater observation bulb.

All of the vessels are engineered to meet strict American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and Lloyd's certification requirements. Here are your specs:

Maximum length: 20 meters
Maximum width: 3 meters
Observation bulb: 3 meters (o.s.l.)
Maximum Speed: 7 knots
Accommodations: 6 beds
Power-source options: Ballard fuel cells, solar, wind, diesel

What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
